What's In A Name?

The streets of Ponyville are packed. Early morning traffic stretches in every direction as everypony tries to get to work on time, get their kids to Ms. Cherilee's class, or just get an important task wrapped up early. Twilight Sparkle and Spike fight their way through the crowds, trying desperately to make it to the post office. On her back, Twilight carries a wedding present for her Brother, Shining Armor. Having just found out last night about his impending nuptials, she's desperate to get her gift to him as quickly as possible.

"Hurry Spike, the post is liable to leave at any minute!" Twilight's eyes dash back and forth, looking for any gap in mass of ponies in front of her. Having not slept well the night before worrying over what to give her brother, much of her mane stands up on end, and combined with her darting eyes, it makes her quite the sight.

"Relax Twilight, we left the Library 2 hours before the Post Office even opens! What do you expect, some freak accident to happen right before you can open the door?" Twilight's constant shifting about the Library the previous night had caused Spike to toss and turn, leading to one very cranky baby dragon.

"You don't understand, my brother is getting married! Oh I wish I could be there to help with the wedding. I just hope my gift is enough until I can make it..."

"Let me guess, an ancient book of Equestrian History written by a long gone pony that nopony remembers?"

"If you must know, I'm sending him a Prewedding Checklist and a box of quills, to help with all the preparations. Pretty thoughtful of me, right?"

"Just what everypony wants before they get hitched." Spike sighed and darted out ahead, acting as a block for Twilight so she could manuever through the traffic easier. Not long after, the Post Office came into sight and Twilight broke into a run, no longer paying attention to her surroundings......

"Why yes Mr. Starswirl, I'd love to be your assistant," mumbled Twilight as her eyes began to open and reality started swimming back into place. She quickly relized she was laying in a heap, up against the side of the Ponyville Post Office. As she started to become more aware, the thought of her package made her suddenly jump up, and search her surroundings for it. How could her brother ever forgive her if she couldnt even get him his present on time? "Oh no, what have I done, my brother is going to disown me!"

"Oh, are you looking for the package you were carrying? I figured you were mailing it out, so I took it in already!"

Twilight stopped mid frantic search and noticed the grey pegasus standing next to Spike. Her mane was blonde and shortly cut on top, much like Rainbow Dash's. She had a mail pouch strapped just below her wings, and was watching Twilight with a vacant smile on her face. Twilight also noticed that the poor dear had one eye that wasnt quite on center, an unfortunate affliction that made her look, well, simple.

Oh, uh, thank you so much for getting my package in for me, Miss, uh.....," Twilight trailed off as she realized she had never met this pony before. The off center eye combined with her social awkwardness to make Twilight suddenly very uncomfortable.

"Ditzy, Ditzy Do, at your service 6 days a week no matter what the weather! I love delivering the mail!" If "Ditzy" had noticed Twilight becoming increasingly uncomfortable around her, she chose to ignore it, as her smile never left her face. "Cute baby dragon you got here, what's his name?"

"Oh that's Spike, my number 1 assistant. He helps me with my studies and tidies up the library behind me. Oh where are my manners, I'm Twilight Sparkle." Twilight reached out her right front hoof for the traditional hoof bump that comes with meeting a new pony. Ditzy reached out as well, but missed the bump the first time. Twilight's smile became a grimace on her face as she tried not to show she had noticed the miss.

Well, uh, Ditzy was it? Thank you again for the help, but me and Spike need to get going. I have a LOT of preparation for my next trip to Canterlot." Twilight motioned for Spike to hop on her back, and the baby dragon was more than happy to oblige.

"Oh no problem, always happy to help out a friend." Ditzy waved to Twilight then took off, her mail sack sliding down a bit as she started her deliveries.

"Spike, why exactly was I out on the ground?," Twilight asked the dragon, a question that just occured to her now that her worry over her present was over and done.

"Your new friend that just took off? She caught you with the post office door as you were about to open it. You were just laying there for like 10 minutes."

"10 minutes? Oh, now I'm running late! I hope Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy haven't started without me!"

Spike sighed, rolled his eyes, and curled up on Twilight's back. "Some ponies," he thought as drifted off to sleep.
